The '-tion' Rule

Words ending in -tion, -sion, and -ette are almost always feminine (e.g., la nation, la liberté).

Masculine Endings

Words ending in -age, -ment, -eau, and -isme are typically masculine (e.g., le courage, le gouvernement).

The Tricky 'E'

Not all words ending in 'e' are feminine! Watch out for words like 'le problème', 'le livre', and 'le musée'.
