Your 6-Week A1 Roadmap

This structured curriculum takes you from zero to A1 proficiency. Each week has clear lessons and daily assignments. By week 6, you'll introduce yourself, handle basic transactions, and understand simple conversations.

Week 1: Foundations & Phonetics

Day 1-2: French Alphabet & Pronunciation

  • Learn 26 French letters (pronunciation differs from English)
  • Practice 5 new French sounds daily (R, U, nasal vowels, OU vs U)
  • Daily assignment: Record yourself pronouncing 20 French words

Day 3-5: Numbers 0-100

  • Learn 0-20 (zéro, un, deux...)
  • Learn tens (30, 40, 50... up to 100)
  • Daily assignment: Write and speak numbers aloud 10x daily

Day 6-7: Greetings & Courtesies

  • Bonjour, Bonsoir, Au revoir, Merci, S'il vous plaît
  • Ça va? Ça va bien, merci.
  • Daily assignment: Practice greetings in the mirror 5 min daily

Week 2: Introduction & Basic Verbs

Day 1-3: Introducing Yourself

  • Je m'appelle... (My name is...)
  • Je suis de... (I'm from...)
  • J'ai X ans (I'm X years old)
  • Daily assignment: Record a 30-second introduction

Day 4-7: Être (To Be) & Avoir (To Have)

  • Conjugate: Je suis, Tu es, Il/Elle est, Nous sommes, Vous êtes, Ils sont
  • Conjugate: J'ai, Tu as, Il/Elle a, Nous avons, Vous avez, Ils ont
  • Daily assignment: 50 conjugation drills, daily

Week 3: Vocabulary & Basic Sentences

Day 1-3: 50 Essential A1 Words

  • Family: père (father), mère (mother), frère (brother), sœur (sister)
  • Food: pain (bread), eau (water), café (coffee), fromage (cheese)
  • Places: maison (house), école (school), gare (train station)
  • Daily assignment: Anki flashcards (30 min)

Day 4-7: Building Sentences

  • Subject + Verb + Object: "Je suis français" (I am French)
  • Simple questions: "Ça va?" "Quel âge as-tu?"
  • Daily assignment: Write 10 simple sentences daily

Week 4: Verbs & Present Tense

Day 1-7: Regular -ER Verbs

  • Learn pattern: Remove -ER, add -E, -ES, -E, -ONS, -EZ, -ENT
  • Master 10 common -ER verbs: parler (speak), manger (eat), danser (dance)
  • Daily assignment: Conjugate 20 -ER verbs daily

Week 5: Articles, Gender & Adjectives

Day 1-3: Gender & Articles

  • LE (masculine singular), LA (feminine singular), LES (plural)
  • UN (masculine), UNE (feminine), DES (plural)
  • Daily assignment: Practice 30 noun + article combos

Day 4-7: Common Adjectives

  • Grand (big), petit (small), bon (good), mauvais (bad), nouveau (new)
  • Learn adjective agreement: Un grand livre / Une grande maison
  • Daily assignment: Write 20 noun + adjective phrases

Week 6: Integration & Real Conversations

Day 1-7: Mock Conversations

  • Scenario 1: Introducing yourself at a café
  • Scenario 2: Ordering food at a restaurant
  • Scenario 3: Asking for directions
  • Daily assignment: Do 1 conversation scenario role-play daily
